Lower Back Pain (Lumbago)

Sudden shooting pain in the lower back (lumbar spine) is often a sign of lumbago – the pain shoots into the back. This is known as acute lumbago.

This may turn into Chronic lumbago when mild to strong pain occurs around the lower back for a prolonged period of time. This pain may occur through movement of the body or other bodily stress, however sometimes even during times of rest.

The causes of lumbago are diverse. They range from simply muscular tension (myosclerosis, myogelosis) to irritation of the spinal joints to a herniated (slipped) disc.

Due to lumbago every small movement can be very painful. There is a risk of consequential damage which cannot be excluded. Therefore, patients should let a doctor examine them at the first instance of lumbago!
