Paralysis

When your spinal cord or arising nerve roots so is strongly squeezed, this leads to paralysis of a muscle or a muscle group because nerve signal cannot be transmitted anymore. For us being doctors, we use our knowledge about the connections between muscles and nerves, in order to make a preliminary diagnosis and to start with the next steps.

It is important to differentiate between acute and chronic injuries. Often, an electromyography and nerve conduction velocity test (NCV) is useful in order to get a deeper understand of the condition.

Paralysis is dangerous: The chance of a good and full recovery is lower, the longer you wait with the treatment. In the worst case, the paralysis will continue lifelong.

Thus, slipped discs with the apparent paralysis: take immediate action!
